I was very pleased to have found Brewekz.  Maybe it was the fact that I had already been traveling through Asia for eight weeks and with the exception of Hong Kong and a few different guys home brewing one or two beers in remote cities of China, I had hated the mainstream beers of Asia.  Now here I was in Singapore on a 20 hour layover; only 6 hours of actual site seeing.  I passed Clarke Quay and decided this could be my best opportunity.  The problem was that most places weren’t open in the afternoon!  I was hoping for the Beer Market, but they were closed too.  I found two bars that were open that each featured one beer I had never tried.  I walked to the river on the outskirts of Clark Quay and as I peered across I saw a sign for Brewerkz.  Ok, they must have beer options.  I crossed the bridge and asked for their beer menu.  That is when I discovered that Brewerkz actually brewed their own beers.  Perfect!  This is exactly what I was hoping for.  My only problem now was how would I drink them all in my limited time?

Brewerkz is an enormous place.  They have an enormous outside area with wonderful views along the river.  Had I been with someone else I would have sat out there, but being that I was alone and about to try their beers for the first time I decided to stay the bar to be able to chat with the bartender.  I asked about their flights and was disappointed it would only come with four.  I shouldn’t never complain about large pours, but they were large enough to deter me from ordering a second set of four.  The bartender noticed how intently I wanted to try more so he was kind enough to provide me with two complimentary ones.  Yes!
Every beer was delicious and wonderful.  I’m never too impressed with a lager or pale ale, but these were two of the best I’ve had of these varieties.  In fact, I try to stay away from pale ales altogether, but this was a single hop series lemondrop pale ale and it was exceptional!  As far as the lager goes, I couldn’t pass on it since it was specially brewed in honor of the current 50 year anniversary of Singapore and named Jubilee Lager.  Again, delicious!

My other four beer choices were styles I typically enjoy and I was thrilled with how they tasted.  I sampled the regular IPA as well as the World Beer Cup Gold Medal Winner XIPA.  It had more hops, malt and at 7.5 abv it was very tasty!  I finished strong with an oatmeal stout and their dark, malty Black Pig.

If their own brews weren’t vast and tasty enough, Brewerkz also serves numerous fabulous bottled beers such as selections of 3 Floyd’s from the USA or Scotland’s Brewdogs varieties.  Plus many more!

Brewerkz also features a large food menu and I took advantage of their lunch special of only 15 Singapore dollars for appetizer, main course and desert.  You could pay 5 more for a pint which is also a big savings.  I loved my pairing of chocolate ice cream (with chocolate sauce) with my Black Pig black beer.

My only regret was that it was time to go the airport.  If I had more time I would have spent many more hours and days at Brewerkz!
